Requirements for Short-Term Rental Registration and Hotel Occupancy Tax Payment
Kemah, TX – The City of Kemah reminds property owners operating short-term rentals to comply with local regulations, including registration and payment of the Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT).
All short-term rental property owners are required to:
- Register their rental property by completing the Short-Term Rental Permit Application available on the City’s website at kemahtx.gov.
- Undergo a property inspection to ensure compliance with occupancy, parking, and health and safety standards.
- Pay the Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) as required by law for all short-term rental stays.
Important Reminder:
Current short-term rental registrations expire at the end of the calendar year. Property owners must renew their registrations by December 31, 2024, to be eligible to operate for the 2025 calendar year.
Permit applications, renewal forms, and payment instructions for the Hotel Occupancy Tax can be found online at kemahtx.gov. Property owners are urged to submit their applications and payments promptly to avoid penalties or fines.
